There must always be a level of mystery to any card miracle if the conjurer wishes to keep the performance a real card miracle. This is one such miracle. In performing, this feat must be done in a group setting. There is no other way to describe this other than a REAL card transportation. This is a very difficult trick to master. It is where magic becomes an art, and you become a great Card Conjurer.
The Presentation: You will need a deck of cards, and a 2' x 2' silk. I like the color red. Mystery surrounds this illusion - or is it an illusion? Maybe its real magic. Whatever you believe about this routine will show itself clearly. If you simply "do a trick", well, this will not nearly have the impact that it should. You must believe you have the power to conjure up some of the greatest card miracles ever - then you will be ready to perform this gem. You are in a group. Let's assume you have 20 people, and its a party. They are expecting you to "pull a rabbit out of a hat". You could do that, but that has been seen before. Instead, you tell them you are going to perform something that few people have ever witnessed - the REAL transportation of a card. You first ask everyone to move to one side of the room or area. Then you ask for two volunteers. Choose the skeptics. Choose those that are most apt to watch closely. Choose those that always watch you like a hawk. Have them stand in the center of the room. If we were to look at the room by compassed direction, let's say you and the two volunteers are on the loadstone, dead center, and everyone else is East. Look to the West. Say nothing. Study it for thirty seconds or so. Look back at the two volunteers. Everyone will be wondering what you are looking at or what is going on. Reach into your pocket and select the silk. Give it to one of the two volunteers. Reach into your shirt pocket and pull out a deck of cards. Personally, the older and worn the card looks for this performance, the better. You'll see why in a moment. Give the card to the second spectator, it is the Ace of Spade - the magician's card. Explain to everyone, with very little motioning with your hand or moving your feet, that the Ace is the most magical card in the deck. It is "mystery" incarnate. What you are about to demonstrate, are its inherent powers. This is not a gag, nor a trick. You are performing magic here. Make them feel it. Place your hand palm up in front of the two volunteers. Everyone from the East should be able to see just fine. Ask the first volunteer to place the Ace face up in your palm. (Make no sudden movements. Simply let the card lie there.) Ask the second volunteer to cover the card and your palm with the silk. He does so. Make NO moves. Look at them, and then look at the audience. Tell them that the card is in your palm, face up, with the silk covering - the obvious. Ask the first volunteer to reach his hand under the silk and make sure the card is there. He does, and it is. Ask the second to do the same. He does, and its there. Wait two seconds (count) after the second spectator removes his hand, and then with your free hand whip the silk off your hand quickly with a snap. Don't move your hand. Just let the silk whip off. The card is gone. Ask the first spectator to go over to the West side of the room and look in the planter (or whatever spot you transported the card to). They look there, and find the same old card that was in your palm. You do not move. You give the silk to volunteer 2 to examine and still keep your palm that had the card in the same place. He examines it. There is no card. The card is in the planter and the first volunteer is holding it. Instruct the first volunteer to place the card back into the planter and out of your sight. He does so. Ask him to return to his spot. He does so. Ask the second volunteer to place the silk over your hand again. He does so. Ask the first volunteer to reach his hand under the silk and make sure the card is not there. He does, and tells you it is not there. Ask the second to do the same. He does, and tells you it is not there. Wait two seconds (count) after the second spectator removes his hand, and then with your free hand whip the silk off your hand quickly with a snap. Don't move your hand. Just let the silk whip off. The Ace has returned. The audience goes wild and the two spectators run over to the planter and check to see if the card is there - its not. They check your hands, pockets, etc. There is only one Ace. The audience cannot believe what they have seen. What has transpired is absolutely impossible. You say NOTHING. You smile, you smirk, you walk over and get a drink from the drink table. You leave them all to wonder, especially the two skeptics.
The Effect: There is absolutely no way I'm explaining this one to you. Its just too good to reveal. Remember, a good Card Conjurer will never reveal his best secrets. [smirk]
